Magic Firefly campaign kicks off this month to support people with intellectual disabilities

Under the motto "The light that embraces difference", another edition of the Magic Firefly Campaign returns on May 9th, in support of the rights of people with intellectual disabilities and/or multiple disabilities.

According to a press release, until June 1st, hundreds of professionals, volunteers and people supported by the 84 participating organisations will take part, across the whole country, in awareness activities calling on the Portuguese people's solidarity for the cause of inclusion.

During the national campaign, more than half a million copies of the iconic mascot are expected to be sold, priced at €2.50 this year. As usual, proceeds go to social solidarity cooperatives (CERCI) and other organisations that, across the country, provide support services to thousands of children, young people and adults with intellectual and/or multiple disabilities and their families.

One of the quirks of the Magic Firefly is that it "hides" its colour each year until the moment of reveal, which happens at the campaign's opening ceremony. The suspense delights fans, who fill social media with their usual guesses.

Running since 1987, the Magic Firefly Campaign (CPM) is a joint initiative of FENACERCI - the National Federation of Social Solidarity Cooperatives, Antena 1 and RTP. A partnership that has united these institutions from the very first moment, with the Magic Firefly featured in Antena 1 and RTP programming as a way of raising awareness for one of the noblest solidarity causes in our country.

Equally essential to the success of the CPM is the involvement of its strategic partners. Once again, Montepio Bank, Pingo Doce and CTT join this cause and support FENACERCI in its goal of bringing the Magic Firefly's transformative light to the whole country, including the autonomous regions.

Through the Montepio Bank branch network, CTT post office stores, and its presence at every Pingo Doce checkout, the Magic Firefly manages to reach even further.

Beyond these locations, the Magic Firefly can be found at schools, street stalls, authorised establishments, and at promotional events run by participating organisations in each community.
