Algarve athlete Usumane Djumo wins 4 championship titles and sets a new national record for Guinea-Bissau in the 60m hurdles

 

An excellent start to the season for Portuguese-Guinean athlete Usumane Djumo, from Armação de Pêra, at the 2025-2026 Northern Portugal Indoor Championship, a competition that also included the Viana do Castelo regional titles. It took place on January 17-18 at Forum Braga, and Algarve athlete Usumane Djumo once again showed excellent results.

In this competition, Portuguese-Guinean athlete Usumane Djumo started the new year with more achievements, setting a new National Record for Guinea-Bissau in the 60m hurdles with a time of eight seconds and ten hundredths (8.10s), also earning the following titles at this Championship in Portugal:

- Northern Zone of Portugal Indoor Champion in the 60m hurdles.

- Viana do Castelo Regional Indoor Champion in the 60m hurdles.

- Northern Zone Team Indoor Champion (CAOV - Clube De Atletismo Olímpico Vianense).

- Viana do Castelo Regional Team Indoor Champion (CAOV - Clube De Atletismo Olímpico Vianense).

At the end of the event, athlete Usumane Djumo said: "I'm very happy with these results, which allowed me, for the second year in a row, to become Regional Champion and Northern Champion both individually and as a team, and this performance is an important indicator of the work I've been doing with my coach, Professor José Barros, with Clube Olímpico Vianense, with the Guinea-Bissau Athletics Federation and with the Guinea-Bissau Olympic Committee. These results are a positive step towards the upcoming National and World Indoor Championships, where I want to once again represent Guinea-Bissau and set more marks and records for the country where I was born," the athlete concluded.
